On Tuesday January 6th, Day of the Epiphany of Our Lord, H.E. Most. Rev. Msgr. Josef Clemens, newly appointed Secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Laity was consecrated Bishop of the Church of Segerme by H. Em. Card. Josef Ratzinger, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome. Matteo Calisi, President of the Catholic Fraternity, who was invited to the ceremony, congratulated with Bishop Clemens and made his wishes to him for his Episcopal ministry. After the Celebration, during a private meeting held in the Pontifical audience hall "Paul VI", Matteo Calisi offered Msgr. Clemens a silver plate commemorating this event on behalf of the Catholic Fraternity.
On Saturday February 14th, at the Pontifical Council for the Laity, in San Calisto square, (Vatican City), Matteo Calisi, with the main leaders of Ecclesia Movements and New Communities, participated to a common reflection meeting on the theme "The Churches of the Countries of former Soviet Union, crossroad of hope and paradigm of a renewed missionary commitment for the Associations of Faithful Laity". H.E. Most Rev. Msgr. Stanislaw Rylko, Archbishop and President of the Vatican Dicastry, presided at the meeting.
On Saturday April 17th, at Palazzo della Cancelleria, Vatican City it was held the first meeting of the European Moderators of Catholic Fraternity. The meeting was presided by H.E. Most Rev. Msgr. Stanislaw Rylko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity. Representatives of New Communities of France, Italy, Ireland participated. Also repesentatives of Communities of Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Mexico, operating in Europe were invited. At the end of the meeting there was an Eucharist Celebration in Basilica of San Lorenzo in Damaso presided by H.E. Most Rev. Msgr. Renato Boccardo, Bishop and Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communication and in charge of the Office of State Secretariat with Special Assignments.
The second theological conversation about "The Participation of New Movements and Communities in the Apostolic Mission of the Church" was held at Assisi from March 17th through Larch 21st 2004. The meeting was promoted also by Communauté de l'Emmanuel, Paris with the patronage of the Pontifical Council for the Laity. The speakers were: Msgr. Stanislaw Rylko, Prof; Libero Gerosa, Fr. Bernard Peyrous, Prof. Andrea Riccarid, Prof. Dennis Biju-Duval, Msgr; Piero Coda. This conversation put together Bishops, theologians, Canon Law experts, and representatives of Communities and Movements. On behalf of the Catholic Fraternity, Matteo Calisi (President), Moyses Azevedo and Shayne Bennett e Dennis Mc Bride (Members of the Executive) and representatives of Communauté de l'Emmanuel, Communauté des Béatitudes, Comunidade Cançao Nova, Comunidade Católica Shalóm, Comunità di Gesù, Comunità Magnificat, Comunità "Eccomi, manda me!", Alleanza Dives in Misericordia, Koinonia Giovanni Battista, Comunità Shalôm of Riva del Garda, Emmanuel Community of Brisbane attended to the meeting.
The Council of the dell’International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (ICCRS) was held in Rome from March 7th through March 14th). During the meeting Matteo Calisi took his leave from the Council of which he was a member since 1993. He served ICCRS uninterruptedly as Italian member first, and subsequently as member for Southern Europe. From 1996 he represented the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the "Ad hoc" Group of Ecclesial Movements and New Communities at the Pontifical Council for the Laity. Matteo Calisi held some important offices such as the office of ecumenical relationships, the memberships of the Executive Council, of the European Sub-committee and of the Theological Commission. Furthermore he was the author of many theological and pastoral articles about the CCR published by ICCRS News Letter; From 2000 Matteo Calisi was Vice President of ICCRS; he represented this institution in several meetings and conferences in many countries.
The International Council of ICCRS decided to invite Matteo Calisi, President of the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships, to participate for one day to the yearly meetings of its Council. The same decision was taken by the International Council of the Catholic Fraternity in November 2003, inviting the President of ICCRS to participate to the yearly meetings of its Council.
In order to make the relationship between ICCRS and the Catholic Fraternity more visible, it was agreed to publish some giudelines of the two institutions jointly. The Statutes of both institutions, recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity provide a close cooperation between them.
From the Statutes of ICCRS:
"Keeping also in mind that on 30 November 1990 the Pontifical Council for the Laity granted recognition to the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships, as a private association of the faithful, and in the hope that there will be a fruitful relationship of dialogue and cooperation between this association and ICCRS (Decree, Pontificium Consilium Pro Laicis 1565/93/AIC-73).
"In its spirit of service ICCRS will maintain a relationship of dialogue and collaboration with the "Catholic Fraternity of Covenant Communities", established as a Private Association of the Faithful by the Holy See" (Art. 9, n. 6).
Also in the Statutes of the Catholic Fraternity make reference to the cooperation with ICCRS, even if in 1990 ICCRO had not been recognized by the Holy See yet. One of the passages mentioning this principle is the following:
"It is also called on to establish bonds of fraternal charity and collaboration with the International Council of Charismatic Renewal Services for the good of the charismatic renewal in the Catholic Church". (Art. 4.2).
Comunità di Gesù, Bari organized its 4th Praise and Worship Conference from February 20th through February 22nd. The Conference was an ecumenical, musical, prophetic song, and spiritual warfare event, and the subject of this year is "The Restoration of the Tabernacle of David". The speakers were: Matteo Calisi (Italy), Shelley Elizabeth Hundley (Colombia - USA), Kjirsten Berglund (USA), Jo Ann McFatter (Texas, USA), Fr. Carlo Colonna, s.j. (Italy), Dr. Palemòn Camù (Mexico-USA), Rev. Gerard O’Flaherty (UK) and other leaders from the USA, Mexico, Bolivia, Argentina, Colombia, Belarus, Croatia, Albania and South Africa.
"Together for Europe" an Ecumenical Conference among Christian Communities e Movements was held in Cologne (Germany) from May 6th through May 8th. The Committee that coordinated this event was formed by prominent leaders such as Chair Lubich (Focolari Movement) and Andrea Riccardi (Comunità di Sant’Egidio). Representatives of the Catholic Church and of the Protestant and Orthodox Churches participated from all over the European Continent.
Comunità di Gesù, Bari was received, during an official visit in Bucarest, by the Patriarch of the Rumanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Teoctist. The members of the delegation were. H.E. Most Rev. Msgr.Mario Paciello, Bishop of Altamura-Gravina-Acquaviva delle Fonti, Fr; Mihai Driga, Representative of the Rumanian Orthodox Patriarchate in Southern Italy, Fr; Carlo Colonna, s.j. Spiritual Adviser of Comunità di Gesù, Prof; Matteo Calisi, President and Founder of Comunità di Gesù, Dr. Nunzio Langiulli (Attorney at Law) Council Member of Comunità di Gesù, Fr. Leo Pinnelli, Fr. Gerardo Basso and Rev Luca Paitoni. The purrpose of this vivist was strenghtening the relationship between Comunità di Gesù and the Orthodox Patriarchate of Rumania, further to the recent developments after the 4th International Meeting for Peace to the Nations <<Kairòs 2003>> of last October, on the theme of the memory of Martyrs of the 20th Century. The former President of the Albanian Parliament, Hon. Pjetër Arbnori, invited Prof. Matteo Calisi to speak at a Conference on the theme "The Albanian Catholic Clergy and the principles of Western Democracy", held in Tirana on March 27th 2004. Several representatives of the political and academic world and of the Church participated to this event.
Martedì 6 gennaio, Solennità dell’Epifania di nostro Signore, S.E. Rev.ma Mons. Josef Clemens, neo-eletto segretario del Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici è stato consacrato Vescovo della Chiesa Titolare di Segerne dal Cardinale Josef Ratzinger, Prefetto della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede, presso la Basilica Patriarcale di San Pietro in Roma. Matteo Calisi, Presidente della Catholic Fraternity, invitato alla cerimonia, ha rivolto al presule le più vive congratulazioni è un ben augurante ministero episcopale. Dopo la Celebrazione, in una ricevimento privato presso l’Aula delle udienze pontificie “Paolo VI”, Matteo Calisi si è intrattenuto con Mons. Clemens al quale ha offerto una targa ricordo d’argento a nome della Catholic Fraternity.
Sabato 14 febbraio, presso il Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici, in piazza San Calisto (Vaticano), Matteo Calisi ha partecipato ad un momento di riflessione comune con i principali responsabili dei Movimenti Ecclesiali e delle Nuove Comunità della Chiesa Cattolica, sul tema “Le Chiese dei Paesi dell’ex Unione Sovietica, crocevia di speranza e paradigma di un rinnovato slancio missionario per le associazioni di fedeli laici”. L’incontro è stato presieduto da S.E. Rev.ma Mons. Stanislaw Rylko, Arcivescovo e Presidente del Dicastero Vaticano.
Sabato 17 aprile, presso il Palazzo della Cancelleria del Vaticano si è svolto il primo incontro dei Moderatori Europei della Catholic Fraternity. Il meeting presieduto da S.E. Rev.ma Mons. Stanislaw Rylko, Presidente del Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici, ha visto la partecipazione dei rappresentanti delle Nuove Comunità di Francia, Italia e Irlanda. Anche i rappresentanti delle Comunità extra-europee del Brasile, Uruguay, Argentina, Messico operanti nel continente europeo sono stati invitati. Al termine dell’incontro è stata celebrata una Messa presso la Basilica di San Lorenzo in Damaso, presieduta da S.E. Rev.ma Mons. Renato Boccardo, Vescovo e Segretario del Pontificio Consiglio per le Comunicazioni Sociali e Capo Ufficio della Segreteria di Stato con Incarichi Speciali.
Si è svolto ad Assisi dal 17 al 21 marzo 2004 il 2 Colloquio teologico su “La partecipazione dei movimenti e delle nuove comunità alla missione apostolica della Chiesa”. Tra i promotori dell’iniziativa la Comunità Emmanuel di Parigi col patrocinio del Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici. Gli oratori sono stati: Mons. Stanislaw Rylko, Prof. Libero Gerosa, Padre Bernard Peyrous, Prof. Andrea Riccardi, Prof. Denis Biju-Duval, Mosn. Piero Coda. Questo colloquio ha riunito Vescovi, Teologi, Canonisti, rappresentanti di Comunità e movimenti. Per la Catholic Fraternity hanno preso parte Matteo Calisi (Presidente), Moyses Azevedo, Shayne Bennett e Dennis McBride (membri dell’esecutivo) e i rappresentanti delle Comunità Emmanuel, Beatitudini, Cançao Nova, Comunidade Catolica Shalòm, Comunità di Gesù, Comunità Magnificat, “Eccomi manda me”, Alleanza Dives in Misericordia, Koinonia San Giovanni Battista, Comunità Shalôm di Riva del Garda, Emmanuel di Brisbane.
Dal 7 al 14 marzo 2004 si è svolto a Roma il Consiglio dell’International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (ICCRS). Durante il meeting Matteo Calisi si è congedato dal Consiglio di cui era membro dal settembre del 1993. Ha servito ininterrotamente l’ICCRS in qualità di membro per l’Italia prima e per l’Europa del Sud dopo. Dal 1996 ha rappresentato il Rinnovamento Carismatico Cattolico presso il Gruppo ad hoc dei movimenti ecclesiali e delle nuove comunità al Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici. Ha ricoperto alcuni importanti incarichi come responsabile per i rapporti ecumenici, membro del Consiglio esecutivo, membro del Sub-Comitato Europeo e membro della Commissione Teologica. E’ stato autore, inoltre, di numerosi articoli a carattere teologico-pastorale sul RCC pubblicati dal News Letter ICCRS. Dal 2000 era stato eletto Vice-Presidente dell’organismo. Ha rappresentato l’ICCRS in differenti meeting e conferenze in numerose nazioni del mondo.
Il Consiglio Internazionale dell’ICCRS ha deciso d’invitare Matteo Calisi, Presidente della Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communies and Fellowships, ha partecipare per un giorno alle sedute annuali del Consiglio. Analoga decisione aveva deliberato il Consiglio Internazionale della Catholic Fraternity nel novembre 2003 invitando il Presidente dell’ICCRS ha partecipare alle sedute annuali del suo Consiglio.
Allo scopo di rendere stabili le relazioni fra l’ICCRS e la Catholic Fraternity il Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici ha proposto una congiunta pubblicazione di alcune linee guide dei due organismi. Infatti, gli Statuti dei due organismi riconosciuti dal Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici del Vaticano stabiliscono una stretta collaborazione fra di loro.

Dal 20 al 22 febbraio, la Comunità di Gesù di Bari ha organizzato la 4 Conferenza internazionale di Lode e Adorazione a carattere ecumenico. L’argomento di quest’anno è stato “La Restaurazione della Tenda di Davide” ed a riguardato la musica, il canto profetico, il combattimento spirituale. Gli oratori sono stati: Matteo Calisi (Italia), Shelley Elizabeth Hundley (Colombia-USA), Kjirsten Berglund (USA), Jo Ann McFatter (Texas, USA), Padre Carlo Colonna, s.j. (Italia), Palemòn Camù (Messico-USA), Gerard O’Flaherty (Inghilterra) ed altri leader provenienti dagli USA, Messico, Bolivia, Argentina, Colombia, Bielorussia, Croazia, Albania, Sud Africa.
Germania
Si è svolto a Colonia (Germania) dal 6 all’8 maggio una Conferenza di Comunità e Movimenti Cristiani a carattere ecumenico dal Tema “Insieme per l’Europa” . Il Comitato organizzatore che ha coordinato l’evento era formato da leaders di spicco come Chiara Lubich (Movimento dei Focolari) e Andrea Riccardi (Comunità di Sant’Egidio). Vi hanno preso parte rappresentanti della Chiesa Cattolica, Protestante e Ortodossa di tutto il continente.
Romania
La Comunità di Gesù di Bari è stata ricevuta a Bucarest in visita ufficiale dal Patriarca della Chiesa Ortodossa Rumena, Sua Beatitudine Toctis. La delegazione era composta da S.E. Rev.ma Mons. Mario Paciello, Vescovo di Altamura-Gravina-Acuqaviva delle Fonti, il Padre Mihai Driga, Rappresentante del Patriarca Ortodosso Rumeno per l’Italia Meridionale, Padre Carlo Colonna s.j. Consigliere Spirituale della Comunità di Gesù, Matteo Calisi, Presidente e Fondatore della Comunità di Gesù, l’Avv. Nunzio Langiulli, Consigliere della Comunità, i Sacerdoti Padre Leo Pinnelli, Padre Gerardo Basso e Don Luca Paitoni. Lo scopo della visita era quello di rafforzare le relazioni tra la Comunità di Gesù e il Patriarcato Ortodossso a seguito dei recenti sviluppi ecumenici avutisi dopo il Meeting di Kairòs dell’ottobre scorso che ha avuto per tema la memoria dei Martiri del ‘900. Nell’occasione la delegazione è stata anche ricevuta del Metropolita cattolico di Bucarest S.E. Rev.ma Mons. Ioan Robu.
L’Ex Presidente della Repubblica albanese Pjetër Arbnori ha invitato il Prof. Matteo Calisi ha tenere un messaggio alla Conferenza su “Il Clero Cattolico Albanese ed i principi della democrazia occidentale” che si è tenuta a Tirana il 27 marzo 2004. Hanno preso parte all’evento numerose personalità del mondo politico, accademico ed ecclesiastico.
